Hubert Duprat est un artiste plasticien français né en 1957 qui vit et travaille dans le sud de la France. Il a notamment utilisé dans son oeuvre les larves de phrygane (également appelée le traîne-bûche ou l'échevin), de 1980 à 1997 : ces insectes de la famille des trichoptères ont la particularité de se former un étui protecteur à partir des déchets trouvés dans leur habitat d'origine, les cours d'eau, afin de résister à la force du courant. Récoltés dans les rapides, les insectes étaient déposés dans des aquariums où tous les éléments qui composaient ce nouvel espace étaient précieux : paillettes d'or 22 carats, opales, turquoises... Les insectes construisaient alors leur tube protecteur qui devenait un vrai bijou.
Son travail actuel se concentre sur des formes tubulaires qui s'entrelacent de façon organique, dont l'extérieur est fait de mastic de carrosserie blanc et dont l'intérieur est recouvert d'hématites noirâtres polies.
Hubert Duprat is a french artist born in 1957 who lives and work in the south of France. Among his works he utilised caddis fly larvae from 1980 to 1997 : these insects from the trichoptera species have the ability to form a protecting sleeve from waste found in rivers, their original habitat, so they can resist to the power of the flow. Harvested in rapids, the insects were put in fishtanks where all the elements constituting the space were precious : 22 carat gold spangles, opal and turquoise gem stones, ... The insects would build their protective tube who would become a real jewel.
His current work is focusing on tubular forms interlaced in an organic fashion, made of white car sealing on the outside and black polished hematites on the inside.
